SWINE SHOWMANSHIP CLINIC AT STATE FAIR
On September 1, UNL Extension will be having a swine showmanship clinic for all youth participants in the 4-H or FFA swine shows. The clinic will begin at 2:15 p.m. in the 4-H Swine Show Ring. You will learn from the experts what judges are looking for, questions judges ask, and showmanship tips. Youth will have time to ask questions and interact with the expert panel.

HEALTH PAPERS FOR AK-SAR-BEN
Exhibitors at AK-SAR-BEN are reminded to check the health requirements on page 68 in the premium book.

RECORD BOOKS DUE
September 18 is the deadline for record books and award applications. Any award applications received after September 18 will not be judged for awards. This year we will only be accepting “The 4-H Career Portfolio" as your award form. We have the 4-H Career Portfolio on CD and in hard copy for you to use.

THANK YOU IS A MUST
Please don’t forget to write thank you notes to the sponsors of your trophies, your special awards and/or buyers of your market animals. These sponsors play a big part in the 4-H program and deserve your thanks. This is the best way we have to insure their continued support and help.

JOINT 4-H COUNCIL and FAIR BOARD MEETING
The Harlan County 4-H Council and the Harlan County Fair Board will hold a joint meeting on September 6 at 7:30 p.m. All 4-H leaders, parents and 4-H’ers are encouraged to come and share thoughts and ideas about the fair.

4-H ACHIEVEMENT BANQUET
Please mark October 28 on your calendar. That date has been set for the 4-H Achievement Banquet at the Ag Center in Orleans. We hope you will plan to come. Dry Ridge 4-H Club is in charge of decorations and a great evening is in the plans. Please call the office by October 23 to make reservations.

YOU KNOW YOU’RE IN 4-H WHEN. . . . . . . . . . .
-- Your family is drooping the day of entry at County Fair because no one went to bed before midnight the night before.
-- You can’t find the kitchen table for the last two weeks of July.
-- You pick a bushel of carrots to find six of uniform size and shape for County Fair.
-- You finish your garment (or sewing on buttons) en route to the Fashion Revue.
-- You grab a comb to straighten your hair, then notice it has a round handle attached.
-- Your family has Dump Cake ten times in two weeks because your presentation is “How to Make Dump Cake”.
-- Your family vacation is the same time and place every year – the State Fair.
-- You’ve finished your new summer outfit, but can’t wear it until after fair.
