DON'T FORGET . . .
4-H Static Exhibits are due in the office on August 23. Harlan County exhibits will all be displayed together in a booth on the main floor of the 4-H Exhibit Hall. So please bring your state fair exhibits so we can fill up the booth and show how talented Harlan County 4-H’ers are.

JOINT 4-H COUNCIL /FAIR BOARD MEETING
The 4-H Council and fair board will hold a joint meeting on September 7. All 4-H leaders, parents and 4-H’ers are encouraged to come and share thoughts and ideas about the fair.

RECORD BOOKS DUE
September 18 is the deadline for record books and award applications. Any award applications received after September 18 will not be judged for awards. This year we will be accepting both “The 4-H Career Portfolio and Building Your 4-H Records as your award form. We have the 4-H Career Portfolio on CD and in hard copy for you to use. A “how to” workshop on filling out the 4-H Career Portfolio will be held August 28. The open house type workshop will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse meeting room in Alma. You will be able to practice using the computer to fill out the portfolio, please contact the office to register. This is the last year that we will be accepting Building Your 4-H Record as the award application form.

REDUCED STATE FAIR GATE ADMISSION TICKETS
Are you going to the State Fair? $3.25 exhibitor tickets are available to 4-Hfamilies and can be ordered through the Extension Office. If you are interested in ordering tickets, contact the office as soon as possible.

THANK YOU IS A MUST
Please don’t forget to write thank you notes to the sponsors of your trophies, your special awards and/or buyers of your market animals. These sponsors play a big part in the 4-H program and deserve your thanks. This is the best way we have to insure their continued support and help.

WANTED: 4-H MASCOT VOLUNTEERS FOR NEBRASKA STATE FAIR
Have you ever wondered what it is like to be inside an inflatable mascot, like Lill' Red or Runza Rex? If so, now's your chance to represent the 4-H Program by volunteering to assist with the brand new 4-H mascot that will debut at the 2006 Nebraska State Fair! Those interested in volunteering, contact the office for requirements and times that volunteers are needed.

CITIZENSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS
Enclosed in this newsletter is a letter to potential CWF participants. If you are interested in going on this trip, you must act by August 21.

HEALTH PAPERS FOR AK-SAR-BEN
Exhibitors at AK-SAR-BEN are reminded to check the health requirements on page 68 in the premium book.

BABYSITTING CLINIC OFFERED
Boys and girls ages 10 to 13 are invited to a Sitter Sense Babysitting Clinic on September 28 at the Johnson Center in Alma from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Information on safety, play, and snacks will be presented by Extension Assistants Lynette Brown and Carol Anderson. Youngsters who are babysitting now or who are thinking about caring for young children are encouraged to attend.
Pre-registration is requested by September 26 by calling the Harlan County Extension Office at 928-2119. The cost of this clinic is $3.00 per person

ACHIEVEMENT BANQUET
Please mark November 3 on your calendar. That date has been set for the Achievement Banquet at the Ag Center in Orleans. We hope you will plan to come. Republican Valley Livestock is in charge of decorations and a great evening is in the plans. Please call the office by October 30 to make reservations.

A big thank you to all those who helped at the Farm Bureau food booth at the fair. You were a big help and are very much appreciated.

HARLAN COUNTY GREAT NEBRASKA FAMILY
Nominations for the Harlan County Great Nebraska Family are due in the Extension Office by September 15. Nominations will be voted on at the council meeting September 21 and the winner will be announced at the Christmas Event on November 13 .

LEADER TRAINING LESSON & COUNCIL MEETING
The Leader Training Lesson, Splenda and Other New Foods -Facts or Fiction , will be given on Thursday evening, September 21, at the courthouse meeting room at 5:30 p.m. It is hoped that all leaders will be there. The council meeting will follow at 7:30 p.m.

ATTENTION HOMEMAKER CLUB MEMBERS
Homemaker Clubs should be getting in full swing again now that fall is here. Don’t forget to elect officers for 2007 at one of your first fall meetings. Yearbooks and lessons for 2007 will be passed out at the fall council meeting, which will be held on September 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the courthouse meeting room in Alma. This will be an important meeting, so please plan to have your club represented.
