CONGRATULATIONS!
Special congratulations to all Harlan County 4-H’ers who exhibited at the Nebraska State Fair and the AK-SAR-BEN 4-H Livestock Exposition. It is an awesome achievement to be able to compete at that level and we are proud of all of you.

4-H ACHIEVEMENT BANQUET
The annual 4-H Achievement Banquet will be held on October 28 at the Ag Center in Orleans. We hope you will plan to come. The Dry Ridge 4-H Club is in charge of decorations and a great evening is in the plans. Please call the office by October 24 to make reservations. Be sure to thank the Orleans Civic Club for cooking the meal and the Orleans Chamber for sponsoring it.

2008 HARLAN COUNTY FAIR DATES
The Harlan County Fair Board has announced that the 2008 Harlan County Junior Fair will begin on Sunday, July 27, and run through Thursday, July 31. Livestock will be weighed and entered on July 27 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm and the livestock auction will be Thursday morning, July 31. A complete schedule will be posted at a later date.

THE 4-H FALL BALL
The Harlan County 4-H Council will be sponsoring a Fall Ball for all 4-H’ers and their guests on November 2 at the Ag Center in Orleans. The Dance and Movie Night will start at 7:00 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m. Admission will be $2.00. Pop can be purchased for $.25 a cup. Refreshments will be served. Mark this on your calendar; it will be great fun!

CHILI COOK OFF
Mark March 15, 2008, on your calendar! That is the date the Harlan County Chili Cook Off is being planned. Proceeds from this Cook Off will go towards the purchasing of new tables and chairs for the Ag Center in Orleans. Watch for more information.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR 4-H VOLUNTEERS
A Volunteer R&R (Retool & Refuel) will be held at North Platte, Nebraska, on December 1, 2007. The training is being conducted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension 4-H Youth Development. The focus of this Volunteer R&R is youth development, healthy lifestyles, and family and consumer sciences. Watch for more information.

HOMEMAKER CLUB NEWS --
FALL CRAFT WORKSHOPS
Attention crafters, ages 7 to 12! Two craft workshops are being planned. The first workshop will be held on October 30 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the courthouse meeting room in Alma. The second workshop will be held on November 5 at the Ag Center in Orleans from 3:15 to 5:45 p.m. The cost of each workshop is $3.00 and includes two crafts and snacks. Please call the Extension office at 928-2119 to pre-register.

ALL WRAPPED UP FOR CHRISTMAS
Ribbons, boxes and bows will be used to decorate at the 2007Homemaker Club Christmas event. The celebration will be held on November 12 at the Ag Center in Orleans. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the popular mini mall. A sit-down dinner will be served at 6:30, and a holiday fashion show will follow. Again this year, each Homemaker Club is asked to decorate a table (two, if possible) and is encouraged to use the All Wrapped Up For Christmas theme. The cost of the evening is $8.00 and reservations are a must. Please pre-register before November 8. The monies from this event funds the three scholarships that the Homemaker Club Council awards to graduating seniors in the spring, so please support this event.

HOMEMAKER CLUB FALL TOUR
The Harlan County Homemaker Council would like to plan a day tour to McCook on November 17, but before plans are finalized we need a show of interest. The tour is open to Homemaker club members and their guests. Numerous points of interest that will be toured are the George Norris’ home, and Sehnert’s Bakery. We must have at least ten people interested before we will proceed with the plans. If you are interested in going, please call the office before October 22. Five dollars gas money will be collected from each person to help pay fuel costs to those who drive. Lunch will be Dutch treat. Hope you can come along. It will be great fun.

2008 LEADER TRAINING LESSONS
Leader Training Lessons have been decided upon for 2008, and are as follows:

January 21: Cake Decorating – Basic Training---Ag Center

February 21: What’s In Your Hutch?- Courthouse Meeting Room

March 27: Digital Photography 101 - Courthouse Meeting Room

September 25: A Baker’s Dozen – Ag Center A complete list and description can be found in the Homemaker Club president’s packet.

REMINDERS
Your Homemaker Club’s Program of Work and officer list is due in our office by November 1. Dues of $ 5.00 per member are due to Marlene Decker by November 1. Outstanding Homemaker Club sheets are due in the office by December 31.
